Austrian Fans of Traditional Costumes Welcome Hitler

The Nazis moved quickly to incorporate Austria into the Reich.  Less than a month after the Nazi takeover, the Austrian monthly for those interested in traditional costumes welcomed the new order, noting that Hitler was a great supporter of traditional costumes.

Gauleiter Hugo Jury Article (November 1944)

The extraordinarily valuable Austrian project (ANNO) to digitize complete runs of newspapers recently added issues from 1944 to the website.  Each year in January they add newspapers for which the 70-year copyright period has expired.

As part of my effort to provide material by the various Nazi Gauleiter, I am thus able to add a 22 November 1944 article by Hugo Jury.

In it, he attempts to persuade the people in his region that victory remains certain, however many setbacks Germany may have suffered.

Julius Streicher and Vaccinations

Given all the recent controversy involving those who doubt the wisdom of vaccinations, I recalled this cartoon I came across from a 1932 issue of Der Stürmer.  It shows a Jewish doctor immunizing a child.  The caption translates as:  “It seems to me that poison and Jews seldom do good things.”

Now, most Nazis realized that vaccinating children was a good idea — but Streicher was a dangerous crackpot in more ways than one.

A 1940 Nazi Parlor Game

I’ve added a page on Do You Know That?, a 1940 Nazi parlor game.

It was intended to teach people dates in German history, some in the past, some more contemporary and with heavy propaganda content.

Anti-Semitic Poster from the November 1932 Election

While looking through Julius Streicher’s Der Stürmer for something else, I came across this poster from the November 1932 Reichstag election.

It translates loosely as “Get rid of misery, get rid of the Jews.”   I’ll added it to the pre-1933 poster page.

Goebbels on International High Finance (1928)

I’m adding a 1928 article by Joseph Goebbels titled “The World Enemy.” Usually that phrase meant the Jews in Nazi rhetoric, but in this case Goebbels doesn’t make that explicit.  He argues that the forces of world finance are at the brink of destroying Germany.

Boys the Nazis Didn’t Like

I’m adding an interesting article from Morgen, the Nazi magazine for boys under twelve, later titled Der Pimpf.  Titled “Hey, You There,” It is addressed to those who were not eager to join the Hitler Youth organization.

This was shortly after the Hitler Youth had replaced all other youth organizations as the result of legislation.

“Real boys,” the Nazis suggested, belonged in the rough and tumble Hitler Youth.  They weren’t mama’s boys or the favorites of maiden aunts.
